Potty Training Your Puppy

If you’re a new dog owner, potty training your puppy is one of the most important things you need to do. It may seem daunting at first, but with patience and consistency, you can have a potty-trained pup in no time! Here are some tips to help you through the potty-training process:

  1. Establish a routine. Dogs thrive on routine, so it’s important to establish a potty-training schedule. Take your puppy outside to potty at the same time every day. After meals, playtime, and naps, take him outside. You should also take him out first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
  2. Use positive reinforcement. Every time your puppy successfully goes potty outside, give him lots of praise and a treat. This will help him make the connection between going potty and getting rewarded.
  3. Be consistent. It’s important to be consistent with your potty-training routine. Don’t give up if your puppy has an accident—just clean it up and start again.
  4. Be patient. It can take 4 to 8 weeks for a new puppy to complete the training process.
